AnthropoScene at Million Women's March-Jan 21, 1pm Centennial Sq

We plan to create a ceremonial AnthropoScene at the global Million Women's March in Victoria on the day after President-of-the-Petrostate Trump's inauguration.

Jan 21, 1 pm
Centennial Square
Victoria, BC

Entitled "Sacred Oil"

A "scientist" and a "businessman" will baptize a naked mother figure who is actually a mother with an oil-like substance.*

Audience members will be given motor oil bottles filled with "oil"* to douse the businessman and scientist if they so wish.

* The "oil" is molasses. We will use a tarp because, although oil spills aren't considered a problematic mess by corporations/governments/lots of people, molasses in the city is.

AnthropoScenes #1 and #2

On Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2017, we hustled to Captain Cook's plinth and winged it!

We had noticed that the statue of explorer/colonizer Captain Cook was missing from his plinth across from the Empress Hotel in downtown Victoria. While we had a meeting to discuss what we might do there we made some investigative calls. And found out that the Captain was being returned the next day!

Here's a short video documenting AnthropoScene #2

On December 26, 2016, we took a little walk through downtown Victoria, BC. We sang "We Wish You a Merry Anthropocene (and a Happy Mass Extinction)" to the Boxing Day shoppers and had a coffee at Starbucks.

Here's a short video documenting AnthropoScene #1

We are artists/activists committed to staging an "AnthropoScene" at least once a month in a public place. We live in Victoria, BC, Canada.

AnthropoScenes are performed and embodied street art pieces aimed at raising awareness of how our way of life is creating collapse and an impending mass extinction.
